The first day in Michigan proved to be the best for weather, so we spent the day on Mackinac Island. It was chilly and breezy, but we chose to walk rather than take the carriage tour.
Cars are not used on the island, so horses and bikes rule the roads. The shops and restaurants that first welcome you from the ferries are bright and vibrant, and the streets lined with bicycles.
On our walk from the Mission District towards Fort Mackinac, we passed along the view above. It is of the harbor and ferries coming to/from the Island.
The Grand Hotel is a large structure, and a brisk 10-15 minute walk from the ferries. One way some people get to the Grand Hotel is via horse drawn carriage. This image is of one of Grand Motel Carriages, as it is leaving the hotel and heading down the hill to town.
