Mini Cooper

Late last weekend, we had a couple of storms roll through.  I saw the clouds rolling in from the distance, and thought it would be a good backdrop for a car photo.  The exposure differences between the sky, the car and the foreground was pretty severe, so I took separate exposures for the sky and the car/foreground and merged them in post.  Here is one of the final images.

Last Days of Ladyslippers

Last weekend we were biking around the lake and checked a usual spot for ladyslippers to bloom.  They were starting to peak, but I didn’t get back out until a few days later.  When I got there, most were already shriveling, with only a few full blooming flowers remaining.  I set up the long lens to help compress the background, and ended up with the following image.

Itasca at night

The weather this past weekend was great, and Saturday night proved to be a good night for shooting the stars.  I ended up at Itasca, trying another crack at the Milly Way over the headwaters with a friend. after a couple of hours we headed back to the car. As we started to load our gear, we looked back and saw the Milky Way over the visitor center. we spent another 20 minutes shooting. Below are 2 shots from the final images made.

Grosbeak

 

We have a couple of feeders in the yard, and every year we get a variety of birds that migrate threw.  I have started to photograph them now that I have a long enough lens.  This is a pair of Grosbeaks that showed up a couple of days ago.  The male is really skiddish, so I have less chances to get a photograph.  The female hangs around the feeder, and doesn’t seem to be bothered by me.
