MN Capitol Building
I had to be in the Twin Cities last week for a training. One of the nights I was able to get down to the capitol building on a clear evening. This was taken just after sunset. This is a panoramic stitch of 5 images.

When I woke up this morning, I noticed the thick fog. I decided on my way to work to stop down by the lake and see if the sun would work for some shots of the fish houses on the lake. Unfortunately, the fog was too thick.
What I did notice was this row of trees lining the edge of the lake along Library Park to Diamond Point Park. The fog caused the trees to disappear in the white.
I decided to bear the cold this afternoon and go out for some shots. The sky started off cloudy, but as the afternoon went on, the clouds started to break. I was driving downtown when I noticed where the sun was in relation to the Memorial Statue near the History Center. When I got there, the sun was still pretty high behind the statue, so I decided to come back later.
This image was made on Christmas Day, while on my way to Christmas Dinner at my in-laws. We had a fresh coat of snow fall throughout the night, and brief flurries throughout the day. The trees had a coat of ice and snow sticking to the branches.
I had to spend a week in the Minneapolis area for a training. I don’t have the chance to photograph a large city skyline often, so I hopped onto Google Maps to scout for locations. I also used a program called The Photographer’s Ephemeris (click for link). This program allowed me to know the sun/moon rise/set information for the dates I would be in the area. With this information, I found the best times to be at my chosen location.
I got up early this morning with the intent of photographing this old car. I was out before sunrise, and used a flash, camera left, with a 1/2 CTO gel on it. The gel gave me a warmer light tone on the car, which is evident in the color version.
